Dr Sofia Reynolds and Dr Robyn Powell: The Power of Peer Support: How to Influence Doctors’ Attitudes and Beliefs
According to the latest WBTi report, the UK and Ireland have some of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world. This has catastrophic implications for public health and the economy. With 30% of children in the UK living in poverty, improving breastfeeding rates is paramount to reducing health inequalities.
In this session, we will explore:
Why doctors have a duty to promote and protect breastfeeding
What prevents the ideal from becoming the reality
How we can change the culture around breastfeeding in medical practice
We will give an overview of how Breastfeeding For Doctors has succeeded in shifting doctors’ attitudes towards breastfeeding. We will also outline the framework we created to deliver a successful online breastfeeding peer support service for doctors in the UK and Ireland.
