Before European Association for Breastfeeding Medicine existed, there were already European Breastfeeding Medicine Conferences: the European regional conferences of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. These were organized in Europe, but without a formal organization structure. One important goal of EABM is to provide a good structure to enable continued and improved organization of European Breastfeeding Medicine Conferences.
